Das Institut für Biochemie ist zusammen mit dem Institut für Experimentelle und Klinische Pharmakologie und Toxikologie der Medizinischen Fakultät sowie dem Institut für Pharmazeutische Chemie der Naturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät II im Emil-Fischer-Zentrum angesiedelt. Zum Institut für Biochemie gehören der Lehrstuhl für Biochemie und Molekulare Medizin, der Lehrstuhl für Biochemie und Pathobiochemie sowie die Professur für Bioinformatik. Die Forschungsgruppen des Instituts für Biochemie befassen sich mit den molekulargenetischen, biochemischen und bioinformatischen Grundlagen der Signaltransduktion im Nervensystem und in extraneuralen Geweben. Interessenschwerpunkte stellen die Mechanismen der rezeptorvermittelten Signaltransduktion und der spezifischen Transkription im Nervensystem, mit den Schwerpunkten Strukturaufklärung, Proteininteraktion und Apoptose dar.

The Institute for Biochemistry, together with the Institute for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Medical Faculty and the Institute for Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Science Faculty II, is located at the Emil-Fischer-Center. The Institute for Biochemistry comprizes the Chair for Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and the Chair for Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry, in addition to the professorship for Bioinformatics. The research groups of the Institute for Biochemistry study the biochemistry, molecular genetics and bioinformatics of signal transduction in both, the nervous system and extraneural tissues. Research interests focus on the mechanisms of receptor mediated signal transduction and transcriptional regulation in the nervous system, with a focus on structure determination, protein interaction and apoptosis.
